Heidi joined the NSCG in 2001, she has been a potter for about 16 years and works in terracotta and Stoneware/Porcelain at the moment. She has trained at the Northern Beaches College, Brookvale.
Heidi’s terracotta one-off pieces are burnished and sealed with a colloidal slip called Terra Sigillata. The slip is either applied with a brush or sprayed onto the ware. By using a combination of colloidal slip and burnishing, the pots are made waterproof. Heidi has written an article in Pottery in Australia on Terra Sigillata.
The conceptual content of her work is from primitive to abstract. Primitive because of the glossy slipcoating over earthenware – Terra Sigillata – and abstract because of the geometric decorations which depend on logic and calculation.
The stoneware pieces are fired to 12800C in an electric kiln.
Heidi has taken part in the Australian Craft Show since 1994 and is also a Craftmark Accredited practitioner.
