Decoupage is the decorative art of applying paper cutouts to a painted surface which is then sealed by layers of lacquer. The appropriate pattern is cut out with fine curved scissors, applied to the painted surface and sealed with multiple layers of varnish over several weeks or months.
My Dutch background gives my work a European flavour and I have been practicing decoupage for nearly 25 years in Australia. I am inspired by Art Nouveau design using unique Japanese and Italian specialty gift wrapping papers. Creating decorative objects from a variety of materials I work mainly with wooden boxes and emu and goose eggs, and occasionally decoupage on shells, ceramics and under glass.
