Denise lives on the Northern Beaches in Sydney and absolutely loves working with glass.
Each piece is handmade using a very old method called lamp working (also known as flame working or torch working).
Lamp working involves using a torch that mixes oxygen and gas to melt solid glass rods. Whilst the glass is in a molten state it is then shaped using a variety of tools and hand movements. When the piece is finished it is placed in a kiln to relieve any thermal stresses, ensure strength and durability and to further enhance particular colours.
Living near the beach has deeply influenced some of her creations such as shells, whale tails, octopus, turtles, jellyfish and seahorses.
Other creations include gumnuts, flowers, pendants, teapots and trees!
