Jane Hinde Silk Painter Jane has always been an avid drawer and painter. She taught Visual Arts in various High Schools from 1976 to 2008.
Jane began working with dyes on fabric in 1976, doing traditional Batik, then soon discovered silk painting dyes and techniques. It was the colours and ‘stained-glass” effect of painted silk that was captivating and it is the perfect medium to combine her drawing and painting skills with the lustre and versatility of silk.
Using Australian imagery as inspiration, and a combination of batik and watercolour techniques, her work captures the vibrant colours and subtle tones of our landscape, flora and fauna. A variety of different coloured guttas (resist) that are drawn onto the silk give her work a linear quality that enhances her figurative style.
Her range includes wallhangings, paintings stretched over canvas, often with 3D pieces attached, square and long scarves and shawls and collaged cards featuring images of her work.
Jane is also a member of The Society of Arts and Crafts of NSW, and the Avalon Craft Cottage
